Greg,

The trick is too gradually shift jobs from stupid-consumption-driven ones to ecology-compliant and smart-consumption-driven ones.

It's a massive change, and it demands huge and coordinated efforts from all layers of society. But we need to start. Let's avoid being stupid consumers and let's to focus our time, our money and our efforts on something that's sustainable, smart, human.

If you think well, the new generation is in part doing this, switching off the TV and shifting its time to a smarter, community-building tool as Internet.

I have a dream ;-)

Cheers,
Francesco

Francesco is surely right? How do we know what we are losing of intellectual value every time a small language dies?

This might be treasure we don't yet understand, slipping away in front of our eyes!

Jebreel,

I appreciate your directness and conciseness, but your point of view seems a little bit too simplistic. The point is not just whether the Catalan will die or not, the point is how the Catalan will evolve as a spoken language, how much will mix with Spanish, how many millions people in, let's say, 2 or 3 generations, will speak Catalan as a first language.

For sure Spanglish is a reference, but this is something related to immigrants, it doesn't apply to well established populations as the Catalans.

Let them die!
Why stop the course of nature?
New ones will arise. Have you ever heard of Spanglish?

Although environmentally uncontrolled expansion of chinese industry seem to be unavoidable, it is fundamental that international investors and multinational companies play a responsible role by adopting best practices in both dimension: social and environmental.

Failing to do that and assist goverment to enforce local competitors to do the same, will bring chances of a sustainable development very close to zero.
